There are many different ways parents soothe and put their babies to sleep. Some of the techniques include feeding them, singing lullabies, giving them a bath, reading a bedtime story and rocking them to sleep.
The most important factor when putting your baby to sleep is to make sure that the crib is free of stuffed animals, bumper pads, blankets and pillows. The crib mattress should be firm and covered with a fitted sheet. Also, always put your baby to sleep on his/her back in their own crib. As tempting as it might be to sleep next to them, always think of their safety first and put them to sleep in their own crib.
Keep your baby away from smokers and don’t let them get too hot while they are sleeping. Offering your baby a pacifier while taking naps and sleeping at night is another way that might prevent SIDS, as well as breastfeeding for as long as possible.
It’s important to schedule and take your baby to all of the well-child visits as well as to vaccinate your baby as recommended by your pediatrician.
