Like people everywhere, we all make New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight, quit smoking, exercise more, stop drinking, etc. While all of these resolutions improve health, many of us don’t stick to it. The first few weeks start out strong and slowly dwindle to the wayside. We get busy, procrastinate and forget our good intentions.
It should be a family decision to get healthy. Supporting one another during difficult times is a must. A great way to start the new year is to decide to get healthy together. Instead of dieting, make long-lasting lifestyle changes.
Shopping, preparing and eating meals together are a wonderful way to make better food choices. Instead of going through the drive-thru at your favorite fast food restaurant, take a little time on the weekend to prepare foods for the week. Vegetable soups, chilis, chopped vegetables and fruits help to lessen meal prep during the busy work week. Shopping for yogurt, nuts, juices and healthy snacks is extremely important. With healthy snacks available, you are less likely to munch on candy bars and chips.
Exercise is another important health factor. Make it fun! There are many video games that offer plenty of activity during winter months. You could also enjoy some family time at your local indoor swimming pool. How about joining a kid friendly gym or YMCA? There are lots of options when it comes to fitness. Take the time to plan and enjoy. The weight will come off before you know it and you’ll feel like a million bucks.
